Working to End Poverty in Baja and the Future of Belmonk Park

Richard and Joe broadcasted live from the Beachfront Benefit for the Pequeño Eden and Corazón de Vida orphanages in Baja, Mexico. The event is sponsored by the Maya Foundation, and will be held at the Rooftop Coaster Terrace at Belmont Park in Mission Beach.

The Corazón de Vida Foundation was founded by Hilda Pacheco-Taylor, who grew up in one of the 50 orphanages in Baja. The Maya Foundation’s goal is to give time, talents and resources to help poverty-stricken people become self-sufficient and to give them the opportunity to improve their lives. The Maya Foundation has been supporting Baja orphanages for twenty years. This non-profit sends financial aid to keep orphanages functioning, provide medical care, dental care and education tools such as tutoring, career education. They also fund aid to send kids to college and technical schools.

Richard and Joe interviewed Amar Harrag, the managing director of the San Diego Chapter of Corazon de Vida Foundation and Brett Miller the founder of Moondoggies and community activist for preserving and maintaining San Diego’s beach communities.
