In his early career he became one of the first orthodontists to use the transparent plastic brace (you may know it as Invisaline) to bring orthodontics to adults. As a result he became an orthodontist to the stars when his practice was in Los Angeles. (People magazine article) He brightened the smiles of stars ranging from Cher, Janet Leigh, Dick Smothers and Jill St. John to Micheal Jackson and Diana Ross. In 1974, he moved his practice permanently to San Diego.

An avid runner, Dr. Rubin stretched beyond numerous 5 and 10k races to enter his first marathon, the Heart of San Diego Marathon, at the age of 50. He did not run another marathon until 7 years later when an assistant in his office was tragically killed in a car accident and her boyfriend was left paralyzed. Dr. Rubin and two assistants from his office ran a marathon to raise money in support of the boyfriend. (U-T San Diego article) Since then he has run numerous marathons as part of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training where runners raise money for cancer research.

Dr. Rubin graduated from UCLA and received his dental degree from the University of Pennsylvania. After serving two years as a Captain in the Air Force, he earned his Orthodontic certificate in Illinois.
