On Sunday May 13th, Richard and Joe were joined in the studio by US Congressman Bob Filner. Filner represents California’s 51st district which includes El Centro and Chula Vista. Filner has a long history of public service which began with his election to the San Diego School Board in 1979 where he also served as President in 1982. He was then elected to the San Diego City Council in 1987. In 1991, Filner was elected to a seat in the US House of Representatives, and he has been serving his district in that capacity ever since.
Bob Filner earned a Ph.D. in the history of Science from Cornell University in 1969 and has spent 20 years of his career as a professor at San Diego State. Notably, Filner is know for being a Freedom Rider as was arrested and served 2 months in the Mississippi State Penitentiary during the Civil Rights Movement.
