Richard and Joe welcomed Paul Palmer and Miles Himmel.

Paul Palmer PhotoPaul Palmer started in radio as an on-air personality at the University of Maryland radio station where he got a rare private interview with the Beatles before their first US concert. You can listen to that rare interview here. Dianne Bell describes how this rare event occurred. Paul went on to a robust radio career as an on-air personality, account executive, and sales manager. Eventually, Paul ended up in San Diego as the VP and General Manager of KFMB AM and FM radio stations. For 22 years he lead these 2 major radio properties to a top-ranked position in both ratings and revenue.

After radio, Paul became President and CEO of the Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Diego County for 12 years where put together a new team. He totally restructured the San Diego BBBS chapter to increase revenue and serve more children. Under his leadership, the number of youth served increased from 230 to over 1,700 and increased revenue from $450,000 to over $3,000,000.

NCRC logoMr. Palmer is currently consulting with The National Conflict Resolution Center (NCRC). Paul has high praise for their “Avoiding the Pipeline to Prison- Alternatives for Youth”. They are turning lives around for youths that have committed a crime. Rather than sending them to Juvenile Hall they get to stay in school and work with the victim of the offense to repair the damage.
On Saturday, April 8th, 2017 NCRC will have 29th Annual Peacemaker Awards at the Hyatt Regency La Jolla. Bill and Lori Walton are among the honorees and former guest, Dick Enberg will emcee.

MILES HIMMEL, PRODUCER OF “THE MIKE SLATER SHOW”

Miles Himmel PhotoIn the second segment, Richard and Joe welcome Miles Himmel, producer of The Mike Slater Show which airs M-F on 760 AM -KFMB. Miles is the son of the late San Diego TV8 personality, Larry Himmel, and in his dad’s honor and memory, founded The Larry Himmel’s Neighborhood Foundation which provides support for San Diego organizations, large and small, and individuals in need. Everyone in San Diego was part of Larry Himmel’s Neighborhood and Larry loved “to make people feel better” ..these values became the driving force and cause of the Foundation!

Larry Himmel Foundation LogoMiles was raised in the 4S Ranch area…an ardent Cubs fan…since his dad was a Chicago native, it was a household requirement. In his dad’s memory, Miles and his mom were in Chicago when the Cubs clinched the National League title. Miles is a graduate of LJ Country Day School and Bradley University. His communications degree has served him well as he has already filled in for Mike Slater on occasion. Miles is well on track to have a long and successful career in broadcasting if that’s the path he chooses. Stay tuned.
