Richard played a small role in tennis history because as a teenager, his job was scrapbooking for Bobby Riggs. Richard compiled eleven scrapbooks that consisted of over 2,500 pages documenting the media frenzy over the “Mother’s Day Massacre” and “The Battle of the Sexes,” historic tennis matches in 1973 between Bobby Riggs and Margaret Court and (later) Bobby Riggs and Billie Jean King. Billie Jean King won her match and became a great voice for women’s liberation. Recently, a documentary, The Battle of the Sexes was released outlining the tennis match that helped turn the the tide for women’s equality.
