Prostate Cancer awareness with Lyle LaRosh and Ron Blair

This week Richard and Joe welcomed Lyle La Rosh and Ronald Blair to discuss the Informed Prostate Cancer Support Group (IPCSG).

IPCSG was started by 12 cancer survivors with no connection to doctors, hospitals, or clinics. It was their belief that they needed a forum where all ideas of prevention and treatment could be shared and openly discussed without following outdated medical practices. The group meets the third Saturday of each month, 10:00 AM – 12:30 PM at Sanford-Burnham Auditorium, 10905 Road to the Cure, San Diego, CA 92121.Informed Prostate Cancer Support Group

Men share their journey and outcomes from therapy, which is unique for each individual. They also learn from speakers including cancer researchers, medical doctors, health insurance experts, psychologists, and more.

“There are some hot topics in the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer,” says La Rosh. “If men don’t get the right information, they have no way to judge if the prescribed therapy is right for them.”

Lyle La Rosh

Mr. La Rosh has a long history of service to the San Diego community. In 1967 Lyle founded US Tuna Industry Invitational Golf Tournament. This tournament ran for 42 consecutive years and raised more than $8 million which was donated to the Boys Clubs of San Diego, Abused Women & children, Birch Aquarium, and a fellowship in Marine Biology at Scripps Institute.

A successful businessman, in 1977 he founded Honor Marine Communications, the world’s largest supplier of Marine Electronics for Tuna Fishing. The company is still in business.

He has served as president of Old Mission Beach Athletic Club (OMBAC) and in 1979 was one of the founders of The Nice Guys, an organization that has been quietly serving the good citizens of San Diego ever since. The main focus has always been to assist families and individuals who cannot meet life’s demands. For more than 35 years, the Nice Guys have continued to make a difference in people’s lives by offering a hand up, not a handout.

In 2016 Lyle incorporated the Informed Prostate Cancer Support Group IPCSG as a 501c3 NonProfit and has served as its President since formation.

Lyle was awarded the National Patient’s Advocacy Man of the Year at Prostate Cancer Research Convention in Los Angeles in 2009.

In 2015 he Co-Founded the Prostate Cancer Awareness Dinner Cruise Fundraiser on the Bay. This was the first event of its kind to spread awareness of Prostate Cancer. The Second Dinner Cruise on the Bay will be September 15, 2016.

Ronald Blair

Ron Blair moved to San Diego in 1976 to start his own company Jet Air Products.

One of his first visits to downtown San Diego, he went to the Bull & Bear Restaurant. It was a lunch hang out for Judges, lawyers, Bankers, Developers, and the “Tuna Guys”. Ron met native San Diegan Lyle LaRosh there and they became friends. When the Nice Guys was formed by Bob Dean and others, Ron and Lyle became active members. Ron has continued with the Nice Guys while Lyle became active in Cancer Patient Advocacy.

Their friendship just turned 40 years and their community service continues. Ron is an advocate and disciple of Lyle’s Prostate Cancer Group. He has participated in more Community Service than anyone else in San Diego and is a major donor to the Prostate Cancer Support Group.
