Dan Yates remains chief executive officer of the bank as well as president of Grandpoint Capital Inc., the parent company of Regents Bank. “Steve brings 28 years of Southern California banking experience to Regents,” said Yates. “I first met Steve when I recruited him to Mellon 1st Business Bank back in 1995, and I’ve enjoyed a close professional relationship with him for the past 17 years.”

From 1995 to 2008, Sefton worked for Mellon 1st Business Bank. In 2002, he was appointed regional vice president, managing a de novo commercial office he opened. From 1991 to 1995, he worked at Sanwa Bank as vice president and team leader.

Bob Filner earned a Ph.D. in the history of Science from Cornell University in 1969 and has spent 20 years of his career as a professor at San Diego State. Notably, Filner is know for being a Freedom Rider as was arrested and served 2 months in the Mississippi State Penitentiary during the Civil Rights Movement.

For all fans of the San Diego Chargers and pro football, this is the podcast for you! On April 29th the San Diego SmartScreen Film Series launched with a presentation of Third and Long: the History of African Americans in Pro Football, 1946-1989.

The post-screening panel discussion was moderated by former Chargers standout and broadcaster, Hank Bauer. Panelists included the filmmaker, Theresa Moore and NFL Hall-of-Famer and former Charger Ron Mix, who is featured in the film. Ron Mix took a heroic position when he was the only white player to stand with black players who boycotted the 1965 AFL’s version of the Pro Bowl. Black players weren’t allowed to go into restaurants and bars in New Orleans, and there were situations where whites were pulling guns on the black players. This hostility continued until they ultimately moved the game to Houston.

John Cox and Richard discuss the link between financial contributions made to state politicians and the effects those contributions have on their votes on legislation. The Neighborhood Legislature Reform Act (NLRA) addresses the issue of financial contributions by making money unnecessary to legislative campaigns. It does this by subdividing the huge legislative districts (500,000 for Assembly seats, 1,000,000 for Senate) into 100 ‘Neighborhood Districts’ which elect a Neighborhood Senator or Assemblyman. These 100 get together after the election and elect one of their number to be part of a ‘Working Committee’ in Sacramento. Thus, to get sent to Sacramento, you must first win a tiny district, where campaigns will be door to door and then win the majority of the votes of 99 other Neighborhood Representatives.

Michelle Lerach is the proprietor of ‘Cups,’ a popular organic bakery and teaching kitchen in La Jolla. David Bronner runs an Escondido shop called Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps Their soaps are synonymous with old-World quality and simplicity, which can be traced back to the family’s German-Jewish soap making tradition. Born in 1908 to a Jewish family, Emanuel Bronner was the third generation certified as a master-soapmaker under the guild system of the time. In 1929, he brought his formulas for high-quality liquid and bar soaps to America, starting Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps in its current form in 1948.

Michael Copass rounds out the show with his scientific expertise. Michael is a Senior Research Associate at Synthetic Genomics. He has experience in in molecular biology, immunoassay development, clinical trials, algae and microalgae cultivation. Michael was educated at Stanford and Harvard Medical School.
