Dickie SmothersThe show welcomed Dick Smothers, the string bass half of the musical and comedic force known as the Smothers Brothers. The Smothers Brothers became household names with their famous TV variety show, “The Smother Brothers Comedy Hour” that air in the 1960s. Its satire played well with the younger disillusioned generation of the time, but ultimately led to conflict with network management.

Dick Smothers was born in New York City and then moved to southern California in late childhood. He attended San Jose State University, which was called San Jose State College at the time, and participated as a distance runner. Since the cancellation of the Comedy Hour he and his brother have appeared on several different TV shows together and separately. They continued touring until 2010, when they announced their retirement.
