Carmel Valley man to run Boston Marathon for blind school

Carmel Valley resident Richard Muscio, co-host of a KFMB 760 radio show on finances, will run the 26.2 mile-Boston Marathon April 16 to raise money for the Perkins School for the Blind based in Watertown, Mass.

Muscio is one of 10 runners from across the country on the Perkins charity team slated to raise $50,000 collectively for the school’s worldwide programs.

Muscio, 53, lost his sight in 2001 after he was accidentally kicked in one eye and endured retina tears in the other eye. Six surgeries and 15 months later, his vision was restored, but he gained 40 pounds, at which point he started running to lose weight. He has won 21 gold medals in 5k races and has run four previous marathons.
